Earlier this week, we were delighted to welcome the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, and the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson, to Welland Academy in Peterborough, as the chosen site to support the Government’s announcement on the expansion of free school meals.
During their visit, the Prime Minister and Education Secretary experienced first-hand the wonderful atmosphere at Welland Academy. They enjoyed listening to pupils showcasing their reading skills and spoke with teachers about the impact that nutritious meals have on children’s wellbeing, focus and learning. Our brilliant Principal, Jo Anderson, also led a tour of the academy, highlighting our commitment to providing every child with the best possible start in life.
Supporting the announcement, the Prime Minister and Education Secretary also met members of our dedicated catering team before joining them in the dining hall to help serve lunch. They spoke with pupils about their school day, their favourite meals and how important it is for every child to have access to healthy food so they can learn, grow and thrive.
We were proud to host such an important announcement, and it was certainly an exciting day to remember for our pupils, staff and visitors alike.
