We run these workshops at many of our academies throughout the year, here is one from our Welland Academy:
Students at the Nottingham Girls Academy are busy reading their allocated books for this term. Year 7, 8 and 9 book of the term is Silence is Goldfish by Annabel Pitcher and the Year 10 and 11 book of the term is Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson.
This national event fits perfectly with the Trust’s campaign for this term which is all about supporting young people to grow into the right careers. There is lots of evidence to suggest that reading whilst growing up is beneficial. For example, the latest Kids & Family Reading Report, a biannual national survey of children ages 6–17 and their parents, shows the importance of reading aloud to children from an early age and the inequities around access to books in the home.
