The Academy will operate from the existing building of the former school under the leadership of Acting Principal, Howard Jones, who was the Acting Headteacher of the predecessor school.
Barry Day, Chief Executive of the GDFT, said: "We are looking forward to welcoming the City of Derby Academy into our group of Academies.
“We were approached by the Department for Education to see if we would consider sponsoring Sinfin Community School. We agreed to this request and have been working closely with staff, pupils, parents, unions and the Local Authority to make this a successful process. We are delighted that these stakeholders have been so enthusiastic to work productively with us.
“We have a clear vision, a strong ethos and believe in traditional values. When we sponsor a new Academy, we do much more than simply change its name and structure – we use our extensive educational expertise to significantly improve the results and life chances of pupils.”
“We will continue the excellent work already in place at the school in order to further raise achievement for children in the Sinfin area. The Academy has already been receiving bespoke support from the Trust and will continue to benefit from the best practice developed by our other five secondary Academies.”
Howard Jones, Acting Headteacher at the Sinfin Community School, said: “The conversion to Academy status marks a new and exciting chapter for the school. The staff and I have ambitious plans and I am confident that, with the enhanced support from the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust as our sponsor, we will continue to improve into a highly successful Academy.”
The opening of the City of Derby Academy will take the total number of open Academies sponsored by the GDFT to 17.
