About the Role
We are delighted to promote this unique opportunity to be part of establishing a DfE-funded initiative for a brand new post-16 provision for unaccompanied asylum seeker young people and other vulnerable new arrivals. Skilled and passionate professionals are required to join our team, working with newly-arrived young people who are beginners to learning English. The students will receive a bespoke package of educational and pastoral support, building on their prior knowledge and skills in order to support their sense of belonging, opportunity and integration into their new lives in the UK.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Understanding of and empathy for newly arrived young people
- Recent successful experience of meeting the needs of EAL learners in a school or further education setting
- Knowledge, understanding and skills required to support those learning English as an additional language
- The ability to work in close partnership with colleagues, outside agencies and the local community to ensure continuity and good communication
You will be responsible for:
- Planning, preparation and curriculum design alongside colleagues
- Contributing to a full-time teaching timetable
- Academic and pastoral care of students
- Outreach activities and liaison
